Once upon a time, when the fires went out on regular steam in Australia, a number of us headed west to South Africa and Rhodesia. While the gauge was narrow, the engines were huge, providing a spectacular display and a reminder of what steam operations were like in their heyday.
After regular steam finished in NSW a number of us gathered at the County Clare Inn with one Dusty Durrant who convinced us all the head to South Africa to cover the steam there.
If you were part of the great Aussie Steam Trek, or would like to hear tall tales and true from those of us who ventured west, we invite you to join us on our Aussie Africa Safari. For atmosphere we are meeting on a real steam train, with a Braai (Barbeque) featuring Boerewors, and a chance to present some of your best slides at the pub in the evening over a pot of beer.
